The bombing of Gernika is quite famous in the world. On this day many people died and almost all gernika was destroyed.

This happened on April 26, 1937. It was a Monday and as every Monday there was a market. Lots of people came to do their shopping. 

Francoists used the day on purpose, so that, more people would die. The first planes arrived  at 4:00p.m. and the last ones at 8:00p.m. That means they were four long hours destroying homes and killing people.

Those who attacked Gernika, came by plane, with bombs and submachine guns in it. A lot of planes came, to destroy everything. 

 

People hid in bunkers, which are still in those gernika sites. They are in places that you can see from the street.

The ones who bombed were a military air force. For this event, Pablo Picasso's famous painting, Gernika, was created.
